Inspired by Tiger Traits, I address my thoughts of the week on personal development. Nate based on the Tiger Woods’ history, as I explained yesterday, explains his 9 special traits. The first trait is called – Identification and development natural talents – my today’s topic. In the professional life, we must identify very early what we can make a difference in. I would fall in specific skills, such as: time management, leadership, stress management, creativity, decision making, problem solutions, IT skills, communications’ skills, project management skills, memory among others…Although, some of these skills could be improved during our life, certainly some skills would easily be engaged to very interesting performance levels due to a natural talent. Others will always be difficult to handle and will be hard to earn a major difference in the business world. At this point, we must clarify that the main purpose of this early discovery would secure a more professional oriented person on special tasks that require their best skills or if we can say it: their TALENTS.
Tip 1. Deserve some time (believe me it is important!) to understand what you do well. What tasks you perform with efficiency or activities that you learn faster than usual.
Tip 2. Realize that you have a hidden TALENT. Ask your special inner circle (family, friends, co-workers, boss) about it.
Tip 3. Expand your TALENTS rather than trying to improve your weaknesses.
Tip 4. Exercise your TALENTS. Without exercise, your talent can never reach its true potential.
Tip 5. Try to perform more tasks that you are good at, rather than spending some many time and energy on weaker performance tasks.
Tip 6. Beware the Peter Principle – stating that in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence. Never try to reach these levels at work, when it will be possible to follow a dangerous function or a role where your talent will be not be important to make that difference.
