Serena Williams moves up on Top 10 Sports Twitterers

This final week of April, the top 10 of Sport Twitterers has a breath ofr fresh air – Serena williams has hit the board. Last week, i previewed this rising star to come up the rankings. Serena added 34,000 followers in a single week. Only the top 4 have more added followers per week. The reason for this has to do with a more tweeting activity by Serena that has call fo the attention of the twitter nation.

TENNIS-FRA-ROLAND-GARROS-HENIN-WILLIAMS

Basketball is still the #1 Sport @ Twitter.

Stattweets – reference of the month

stattweets

As my twitter mania comes stronger, i have become more and more interested in the Twitter application to sport organizations.

Most sports-related media i have seen, have a Twitter account but they will make massive overload tweets to your dashboard.  This week, i found StatTweets! You can follow just the US teams from many sports, and can interact with each account to retrieve team and player stats dynamically. Let’s give Robbie (@StatSheet) some feedback about this project.

Twitter for dummies…

Nowadays, my addicted activitiy on the web is Twitter. It’s so fantastic how a small thing can have such a huge impact on your daily lives. What i really like about it, is the possibility to hear and read relevant information provided by a group of fantastic people. But we must follow a few rules so we won’t have a Twitter overdose.

twitter-hashcloudsPhoto credits: http://zeroinfluence.com

Problogger gave me a few ideas.

  • improve the quality of my blog – by adding new content every day. The last twitter application for wordpress despite being a bit poor, give you an open window for all your tweets
  • network with other bloggers – this is definately, a powerful way to exchange ideas and projects with others
  • widen my readership – it allows me to read fanstastic posts and news written or read by other on my network.
  • grow my profile – it’s a good way to show up
  • drive traffic to my blog – still working on these incoming visitors
  •

Glen Murray discussed the quality over quantity effect on Twitter. Personally, i have different groups and for those i would enjoy relevant twitterers that give me gold info about everithing. The best source in the world! This weekend, i have tried to follow a conference through the eyes of others by twittering us all data about it. Excellent!
Jen Genuine also provided some thoughts on a step by step process to undersantd the potential of this tool.
I must also credit the efforts of Dan Schawbel with his blog http://personalbrandingblog.com/ by adding so many information about the positive twitter effects on business, personal development, among others.
Another post from this topic specially for sport organizations

    Twitter thing… for sport organizations

Today, i started my twitter thing… after so many comments.
In fact, it’s quite easy and brings a lot of curiosity on who is going to follow you.
I am choosing some interesting people from the world of public speakers among others. Let’s see if i will become a Twitter fan.

As a sports fan, twitter will be the next big thing for sport organizations. Brian Gaynor has published recently a list of 25 ways to twitter for sport organizations (read here).
    1. Create exclusive event offers – “tweet up events”
    2. Alert fans about special game day vip experiences
    3. Distribute community initiative alerts
    4. Drive awareness for sponsor promotions
    5. Provide behind-the-scenes access to athletes and team Personnel
    6. Offer team news and information
    7. Implement flash mob marketing tactics
    8. Provide up-to-the-minute injury updates
    9. Offer updates on ticket specials and new ticket packages
    10. Enhance online fan engagement tactics
    11. Promote viral marketing efforts
    12. Provide game alerts, previews, and recaps
    13. Release positive, controlled public relations messaging
    14. Leverage arena personalities
    15. Provide play-by-play game coverage
    16. Offer trash talk / team challenges
    17. Provide unique team facts
    18. Develop an avid, online fanbase
    19. Reward fan engagement
    20. Provide away game discounts and information for fans
    21. Use as an online forum for fan feedback
    22. Support in-game entertainment features
    23. Announce new personnel hires
    24. Promote text messaging initiatives
    25. Link team social media extensions

As European Sport organizations are concerned, Twitter is becoming a tool to consider. In a glance, i show you a couple of organizations:

    AC MILAN – http://twitter.com/ACMilan

    FC BARCELONA – http://twitter.com/f_c_barcelona

    HOFFENHEIM – http://twitter.com/Hoffenheim

    LIVERPOOL FC – http://twitter.com/LFCTV

    IPAM – Sports Marketing 2009

Organized by IPAM Matosinhos, the Sports Marketing International Conference – Sports Marketing 09 – will be held on March 25th in Oporto Alfândega Building, at Oporto. Its aim is to become a noteworthy event for the development, opinion and debate of sports marketing.sm_logo

In the conference there will be national and international field experts that will present us some studies about sports marketing and its new tendencies which will infer the thoughts, the knowledge and the exchange of different experiences. For the 1st time in Portugal, William Sutton (check his biography) delivers an excellent lecture about the world of sports marketing.

Please, this is a must attend Conference! I will be there!
